Arterial diseases are one of the important health problems and the incidence is 500 – 1000 new cases per 1 million population per year in Western countries. It is estimated that 35-40 000 new patients with atherosclerosis occur in our country every year.

4 main groups of peripheral vascular disease can be identified

1. Cerebral arteries: The disease of the carotid artery, also called the carotid artery, and the disease of other vessels that carry blood to the brain cause paralysis.
2. Renal artery: it can cause high blood pressure and kidney failure.
3. Leg arteries: walking a certain distance causes leg pain, cramps and shortening of walking distance. May cause gangrene and amputation in advanced patients
4. Intestinal arteries: may cause abdominal pain, weight loss and intestinal gangrene.

1. Smoking: Smoking is the most important factor in many atherosclerosis. Despite the decrease in smoking habit in Western countries in recent years, it is increasing in our country. Although the population growth rate in Turkey was 18.3% between 1992-2002, smoking increased by 36.2%.
2. High cholesterol: It plays a very important role in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis.
3. Diabetes: The incidence of vascular occlusion in diabetics is higher than in other individuals of the same age.
4. Connective tissue diseases
5. A clot from the heart
